Apple Pastry Roses
Ingredients:
1 package of puff pastry dough
2 medium sized apples, cored and thinly sliced (1/4”)
3 tbsp butter, melted
3 tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
For the icing:
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1-2 tbsp milk
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 F. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar & cinnamon — stir to combine. Unroll puff pastry sheet on a cleaned surface.
2. Using a pastry brush (a spoon of you don’t have one), evenly coat the pastry dough with the butter mixture, be sure to coat up to edges and corners.
3. Using a pizza cutter, cut even strips of the dough horizontally, making strips about 1”+ wide. Lay thinly sliced apples along these strips, overlapping some.
4. Gently begin to roll the strips, starting on one end, rolling towards the other. Carefully position each roll into a cast iron skillet. They will be tucked in close together, much like baking cinnamon rolls.
5. Place skillet in preheated oven and bake for 20-35 mins. Remove from oven and allow to cool for about 10 mins.
6. While it’s cooling, prepare your icing. Combine powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl and whisk until there are no lumps. Add more milk or more powdered sugar to reach desired consistency, it should be fairly thick. Glaze rolls in the skillet.
